Three Vases as a New Beginning

My friend at District Clay, Katie Aldwort, shared this clay body called Star White. I don't know much about the clay but I remember her saying it's made by a Korean family in a Southern state. 

I had problems with S crack with vases, so I decided to use them as test pieces. Here is what I did to the cracked green ware. 

1. I dipped them in white slip.

2. Bisque fired.

3. I used Gustin Shino glaze for inside.

4. I did "kakewake" of Malcolm's Shino.

5. I put Tenmoku over it.

The lightest one only had Tenmoku at the top. Tenmoku ran a little and gave nice "keshiki" or scenery near up top. Malcolm's Shino reacts differently to white slip. Over all, it has nice creamy candy glaze look. Some area has nice crystallization effects. The middle band is the exposed Star White clay body.

Medium dark one and the dark one share pretty much the same glazing method except the dark one had extra thick coating of Tenmoku over Malcolm's Shino. It is a nice surprise to see such big differences between those two.
